NERSC Perlmutter via Spin
NDIP can use the NERSC Perlmutter supercomputer to run jobs, which are submitted through Spin—a container-based platform for deploying science gateways, workflow managers, databases, API endpoints, and other network services that support scientific projects.
Details on installing NDIP services on Spin are covered in another section. Here, we provide links to help you set up access to the required infrastructure.
NERSC User Account & Project
You'll need an NERSC account. Learn how to apply here. When applying, you’ll need a project, which a project PI can provide. If you need an allocation, you may need to submit a proposal, but that’s beyond the scope of this guide.
Approval can take time, so plan ahead.
Spin Access
To access Spin, one must complete an instructor-led workshop or self-guided training. This can take some time, especially for an instructor-led workshop. As part of the NDIP team, you can submit a ticket to request self-guided training. See the training documentation for more information.
Once you have access, you can begin deploying services. See the services section for deployment guidance.
